বাংলা অনুবাদ

বাংলা অনুবাদ বলতে বােঝায় ভাষান্তর। এক ভাষা থেকে অন্য ভাষায় রূপান্তর বা পুনর্বিবৃতি। বিভিন্ন ভাষাগােষ্ঠীর মধ্যে তথ্য বিনিময়ের প্রধান উপায় হচ্ছে অনুবাদ। পৃথিবীর বিভিন্ন জাতি বিভিন্ন ভাষায় সাহিত্য-সংস্কৃতি, জ্ঞান-বিজ্ঞান ইত্যাদি নিয়ে কাজ করে যাচ্ছে। সেসবের পরিচয় পেতে হলে সেসব ভাষা থেকে সেগুলি নিজের ভাষায় অনুবাদ করে নিতে হয়। বিশ্বের প্রায় সব তথ্য ও জ্ঞান ইংরেজি ভাষার মাধ্যমে পাওয়া যায়। তাই ইংরেজি ভাষা থেকে অনুবাদের ওপর অধিকতর গুরুত্ব দেওয়া হয়ে থাকে।

ইংরেজি থেকে বাংলা অনুবাদে দুটো ভাষাতেই যথেষ্ট পারদর্শিতা থাকা দরকার। বাংলা ভাষার পাশাপাশি ইংরেজি ভাষায় সাহিত্য ও জ্ঞানের বই, পত্র-পত্রিকা ইত্যাদি পড়ার অভ্যাস করলে এ ধরনের দক্ষতা গড়ে ওঠে।

বাংলা অনুবাদের ধরন

অনুবাদ প্রধানত দু-ধরনের : ক. আক্ষরিক অনুবাদ, খ. ভাবানুবাদ।

ক. আক্ষরিক অনুবাদ

এক ভাষার শব্দের বদলে অন্য ভাষার শব্দ বসিয়ে অনুবাদ করাকে বলা হয় আক্ষরিক অনুবাদ। আক্ষরিক অনুবাদ মূলানুগ হয়ে থাকে। এ ধরনের অনুবাদ প্রায় ক্ষেত্রেই কৃত্রিম হয়। আক্ষরিক অনুবাদে ভাষার সৌন্দর্য ও মাধুর্য থাকে না বললেই চলে। যেমন : “There was no reply’-এর আক্ষরিক অনুবাদ : ‘সেখানে কোনাে উত্তর ছিল না। এ জাতীয় অনুবাদ গ্রহণযােগ্য হয় না। গ্রহণযােগ্য অনুবাদ হচ্ছে : ‘কোনাে উত্তর এল না।’ সাবলীল হয় না বলে সাধারণত আক্ষরিক অনুবাদ পরিহার করা হয়। তবে দলিল-দস্তাবেজ, বিজ্ঞান ও আইনের বিষয়ের অনুবাদ অনেক ক্ষেত্রে আক্ষরিক হয়ে থাকে।

খ. ভাবানুবাদ

মূলের অর্থ ঠিক রেখে নিজের ভাষার রীতি অনুযায়ী স্বাধীন অনুবাদকে বলা হয় ভাবানুবাদ। এ ধরনের অনুবাদ মূলানুগ হয় না, কিন্তু প্রাঞ্জল, সুখপাঠ্য ও হৃদয়গ্রাহী হয়ে থাকে। আক্ষরিক অনুবাদ রস উপলদ্ধির পক্ষে বাধা হয় বলে সাহিত্যের অনুবাদ সাধারণত ভাবানুবাদ হয়ে থাকে।

ইংরেজি থেকে বাংলা অনুবাদের কৌশল

অনুবাদ মানে এক ভাষার শব্দের বদলে অন্য ভাষার শব্দ সাজানাে নয়। বরং মূল ভাব বা বক্তব্য অন্য ভাষায় প্রকাশ করা। তাই ইংরেজি থেকে বাংলা অনুবাদের সময় নিচের কয়েকটি প্রধান দিকের প্রতি লক্ষ রাখা দরকার :

• অনুবাদ করার সময় নির্ধারিত অংশটুকু মন দিয়ে বারবার পড়ে মূল কথা বােঝার চেষ্টা করতে হবে।
• দুর্বোধ্য শব্দ বা বাক্যাংশের অর্থ জানা না থাকলে বক্তব্য বিষয়ের সঙ্গে সংগতি রেখে সম্ভাব্য কাছাকাছি বাংলা শব্দ ব্যবহার করতে হবে। অনুবাদ সত্ব না হলে দুর্বোধ্য শব্দ বা বাক্যাংশটুকু হুবহু বাংলা বাক্যে ব্যবহার করা যেতে পারে।
• ইংরেজি অনেক শব্দের আক্ষরিক বাংলা অনুবাদ সম্ভব নয়। এমন ক্ষেত্রে ভাবানুবাদ করা ছাড়া উপায় থাকে না।
• মূলের বাচ্য ও ক্রিয়ার কাল অনুবাদে অপরিবর্তিত রাখতে হয়।
• মূল বাক্য জটিল বা যৌগিক বাক্য হলে বাংলা অনুবাদের সুবিধার জন্য তা একাধিক বাক্যে ভেঙে অনুবাদ করা ভালাে। যেমন :

মূল বাক্য : I know the man who died yesterday is the father of my friend Shabuj.
আড়ষ্ট অনুবাদ : আমি ঐ লােকটাকে জানি যে গতকাল মারা গেছে সে আমার বন্ধু সবুজের পিতা।
সাবলীল অনুবাদ : গতকাল যিনি মারা গেছেন তাকে আমি চিনি। তিনি আমার বন্ধু সবুজের বাবা।

• মূলের প্রত্যক্ষ ও পরােক্ষ উক্তি অনুবাদে অক্ষুন্ন রাখতে হবে।
• ব্যক্তি, স্থান ইত্যাদি সংজ্ঞাবাচক বিশেষ্য শব্দের অনুবাদ হয় না। এ ধরনের শব্দ বাংলায় প্রতিবর্ণীকরণ করতে হয়। অর্থাৎ উচ্চারণ অনুযায়ী বাংলায় লিখতে হয়। যেমন : Shakespeare-শেক্সপিয়র, Newton নিউটন, London- লন্ডন।
• মূলে পরিভাষা থাকলে অনুবাদে সুপ্রচলিত বাংলা পরিভাষা ব্যবহার করা উচিত। বাংলা পরিভাষা অপ্রচলিত বা দুর্বোধ্য হলে মূল পরিভাষার বাংলা প্রতিবর্ণীকরণ করতে হয়। যেমন : পারিভাষিক শব্দের ভাষান্তর : Physics-পদার্থবিদ্যা, Adjective-বিশেষণ, Court-আদালত। পারিভাষিক শব্দের প্রতিবর্ণীকরণ : Television—টেলিভিশন, Computer-কম্পিউটার, Station-স্টেশন।
• মূল পাঠে ব্যবহৃত শব্দের একাধিক অর্থ থাকলে অনুবাদে অধিকতর গ্রহণযােগ্য শব্দ বেছে নিতে হয়। যেমন : Telephone line-টেলিফোনের লাইন/ তার A fishing line-মাছ ধরার সুতাে Parallel lines—সমান্তরাল রেখা। A bus line-বাস চলাচল ব্যবস্থা The family line-বংশপরম্পরা।
• বাংলা অনুবাদে যেন সাধু ও চলিত রীতির মিশ্রণ না হয় সেদিকে লক্ষ রাখতে হয়।
• বাংলা অনুবাদের ভাষা যেন কৃত্রিম বা আড়ষ্ট না হয়। বাংলা ভাষার মাধুর্য, সরলতা, স্পষ্টতা, সাবলীলতা ইত্যাদি যেন বজায় থাকে সেদিকে লক্ষ রাখা উচিত।
• বাংলা ছাদের বাক্যরীতি ও ইংরেজি ছাঁদের বাক্যরীতির মধ্যে সুস্পষ্ট পার্থক্য দেখা যায়। তাই অনুবাদ করার সময় ইংরেজি রীতির বাক্যকে বাংলা রীতিতে বদলে নেওয়া ভালাে। এ ক্ষেত্রে কয়েকটি লক্ষণীয় দিক হচ্ছে :

ক. ইংরেজিতে কর্তার পর ক্রিয়া ও শেষে কর্ম বসে। পক্ষান্তরে বাংলায় কর্তার পরে কর্ম ও শেষে ক্রিয়া বসে। যেমন : He played football yesterday. [ কর্তা + ক্রিয়া + কর্ম (+অন্য পদ)] সে গতকাল ফুটবল খেলেছিল। [ কর্তা (+অন্য পদ)+ কর্ম + ক্রিয়া]

খ. ইংরেজিতে verb ব্যবহার করতেই হয়। বাংলায় অনেক ক্ষেত্রে ক্রিয়াপদ উহ্য থাকে। যেমন : The door is open.-দরজাটা খােলা [ক্রিয়াপদ ঊহ্যাঁ।

গ. ইংরেজি বাক্যে a, an, the থাকলে অনেক ক্ষেত্রে বাংলায় সেগুলির অনুবাদ হয় না। যেমন : Honesty is a noble virtue.—সততা মহৎ গুণ। He knows a lot about the earth, the sun and the moon. তিনি পৃথিবী, সূর্য ও চন্দ্র সম্পর্কে অনেক কিছুই জানেন।

ঘ. ইংরেজি বাক্যে অনেক ক্ষেত্রে it, there, may ইত্যাদি বিশেষ রীতি হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়। বাংলায় এগুলাে বাদ দিতে হয়। যেমন :
There is a school in our village. আমাদের গ্রামে একটি স্কুল আছে।

ঙ. ইংরেজি বাগধারা বা প্রবাদ-প্রবচন অনুবাদের সময় লাগসই বাংলা বাগধারা বা প্রবাদ-প্রবচন ব্যবহার করা উচিত। যেমন : As you sow so you reap.যেমন কর্ম তেমন ফল। He has gone to dogs.—সে গােল্লায় গেছে।

চ. ইংরেজি ও বাংলা প্রশ্নবাক্যের পদক্রম আলাদা। বাংলা অনুবাদে বাংলা রীতি অনুসরণ করতে হয়। যেমন : Are you il ? [ ক্রিয়া/সহায়ক ক্রিয়া + কর্তা + …] আপনি কি অসুস্থ? [ কর্তা + প্রশ্নসূচক অব্যয় + …]

নমুনা বাংলা অনুবাদ

I continue my letter. It is night, everybody is asleep. I am sitting up late writing to you, before the window. The garden is full of fragrance. The air is warm.
বঙ্গানুবাদ : আমি চিঠি লিখছি। এখন রাত, সবাই নিদ্রাচ্ছন্ন। রাত জেগে জানালার পাশে বসে তােমার কাছে লিখছি। বাগান সুগন্ধে ভরপুর। বাতাসে উষ্ণতা।

I am fond of collecting foreign stamps. I have chosen it because it is both interesting and instructive. As one goes on collecting, he comes in direct touch with geographical, historical and social conditions of various countries. The pictures of various things of interest, rare animals, beautiful sights all these are thought provoking.
বঙ্গানুবাদ : আমার শখ বিদেশি ডাকটিকিট সংগ্রহ করা। আমি এটা বেছে নিয়েছি কারণ এটা যেমন মজার তেমনি শিক্ষামূলক। এটা সংগ্রহের ভেতর দিয়েই বিভিন্ন দেশের ভৌগােলিক, ঐতিহাসিক, সামাজিক অবস্থা সম্পর্কে জানা যায়। কৌতূহলজনক বিভিন্ন জিনিস, দুর্লভ প্রাণী, সুন্দর জায়গার ছবি— সবই চিন্তাকে উসকে দেয়।

Here is my mother. There is none else like my mother. How affectionate she is to me! She always takes care of me. If I fall ill, mother grows very anxious.
বঙ্গানুবাদ : এই আমার মা। আমার মায়ের মতাে আর কেউ নেই। আমার প্রতি তিনি কত না স্নেহশীল! তিনি সদাই আমার যত্ন নেন। আমি অসুস্থ হলে মা বড়ই উদ্বিগ্ন হন।

Smoking is very harmful. It is expensive too. It pollutes the environment. Those who smoke cannot live long. So, everyone should give up smoking.
বঙ্গানুবাদ : ধূমপান খুব ক্ষতিকর। সেইসঙ্গে ব্যয়বহুলও। এটি পরিবেশকে দূষিত করে। যারা ধূমপান করেন তারা বেশিদিন বাঁচতে পারেন না। তাই প্রত্যেকেরই উচিত ধূমপান ত্যাগ করা।

Cleanliness is a virtue. It is the habit of keeping the body and all other things free from dirts. Without a clean body one can not have a pure mind. Cleanliness keeps health sound. It is also a mark of politeness. Good health keeps mind sound.
বঙ্গানুবাদ : পরিচ্ছন্নতা একটি গুণ। শরীর ও অন্য সবকিছু ময়লামুক্ত রাখার একটি অভ্যাস এটি। বিশুদ্ধ মনের জন্য চাই পরিচ্ছন্ন দেহ। পরিচ্ছন্নতা স্বাস্থ্য রক্ষা করে। এটা বিনয়েরও লক্ষণ। ভালাে স্বাস্থ্য মনকে প্রফুল্ল রাখে।

Punctuality is to be cultivated and formed into a habit. This quality is to be acquired through all our works from our childhood. Childhood is the seed-time. The habit formed at this time will continue all through our life. “Everything at right time” should be our motto.
বঙ্গানুবাদ : সময়ানুবর্তিতার চর্চা করে একে অভ্যাসে পরিণত করতে হয়। শৈশবকাল থেকেই বিভিন্ন কাজের মধ্য দিয়ে এই গুণ অর্জন করতে হয়। শৈশব হচ্ছে বীজ বপনের সময়। এ সময়ে গড়ে ওঠা অভ্যাসই আমাদের মধ্যে সারা জীবনে বজায় থাকে। আমাদের উদ্দেশ্য হওয়া উচিত যথাসময়ে যথা কাজ।’

Honesty is a noble virtue. It is the secret of success in every sphere of life. The value of honesty is very great. It wins love, respect and fearlessness. An honest man passes his days in respect and happiness. Honesty is the best policy.
বঙ্গানুবাদ : সততা মহৎ গুণ। জীবনের প্রতিটি ক্ষেত্রে সাফল্যের গােপন রহস্য হলাে সততা। সততার মূল্য খুবই বেশি। সততা দিয়ে ভালােবাসা, শ্রদ্ধা ও নির্ভীকতা জয় করা যায়। সৎ ব্যক্তি সুখে ও মর্যাদায় দিন অতিবাহিত করে। সততাই সর্বোৎকৃষ্ট পন্থা।

In this life there are no gains without pains. Life indeed, would be dull if there were no difficulties. Games lose their interest, if there is no struggle and if the result is a forgone conclusion. Both winner and loser enjoy a game most if it is closely contested to the last.
বঙ্গানুবাদ : কষ্ট ছাড়া এ জীবনে কিছুই অর্জিত হয় না। বস্তুত, বাধা-বিঘ্ন না থাকলে জীবন হয়ে পড়ত নিরানন্দ। খেলায় যদি প্রতিযােগিতা না থাকে আর তার ফলাফল পূর্বনির্ধারিত হয়, তবে সে খেলা তার মজা হারিয়ে ফেলে। খেলায় শেষ মুহূর্ত পর্যন্ত প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বিতা তীব্র হলে বিজয়ী এবং বিজিত উভয়েই তা দারুণ উপভােগ করে।

Students have youth and energy. They are filled with high ideals. They are free from the responsibility of maintaining families. So, it is easy for them to devote themselves to social service.
বঙ্গানুবাদ : ছাত্রদের আছে তারুণ্য ও শক্তি। তারা উচ্চ আদর্শে ভরপুর। পরিবার চালানাের দায়িত্ব থেকে তারা মুক্ত। কাজেই, সমাজসেবায় নিজেদের উৎসর্গ করা তাদের পক্ষে সহজ।

Our life is short. But we have to do many things. Human life is nothing but the collection of moments. So we must not spend a single moment in vein. To kill time is to shorten life. Time and tide wait for none.
অনুবাদ : আমাদের জীবন সংক্ষিপ্ত। কিন্তু আমাদের অনেক কিছু করার থাকে। মানবজীবন কিছু মুহূর্তের সমষ্টি মাত্র। তাই এক মুহূর্তও আমাদের অকারণে নষ্ট করা উচিত নয়। সময় নষ্ট করার অর্থ জীবনকে সংক্ষিপ্ত করা। সময় ও জোয়ার-ভাটা কারও জন্য অপেক্ষা করে না।

One of the most famous of the early travellers of the world was Marco Polo. He was born in Venice in 1254. A.D. When Marco was a boy of fifteen his father decided to go to China. Marco was not very strong and was too dedicate to go on such a long journey. But he was brave and persuaded his father to take him with him. অনুবাদ : সেকালে পৃথিবীর বিখ্যাত পর্যটকদের মধ্যে অন্যতম ছিলেন মার্কো পােলাে। তিনি ভেনিস শহরে ১২৫৪ খ্রিষ্টাব্দে জন্মগ্রহণ করেছিলেন। মার্কোর বয়স যখন পনেরাে, সেই সময় তাঁর পিতা চীন দেশে যাবেন বলে স্থির করেছিলেন। মার্কোর স্বাস্থ্য বিশেষ ভালাে ছিল না। এই দীর্ঘ ভ্রমণের পক্ষে তা ছিল একেবারেই অনুপযােগী। কিন্তু তিনি ছিলেন সাহসী। তিনি পিতাকে তার সহযাত্রী করে নেবার জন্য সম্মত করালেন।

Hercules was a great hero. He was once going on his way to an unknown place, when he saw a giant. The giant was even taller than a mountain and was holding the sky on his head. He asked Hercules, ‘Who are you and what do you want?’ The hero said, ‘I am Hercules and am going to the garden of Golden Apples’.
অনুবাদ : হারকিউলিস ছিলেন একজন মস্ত বীর। একবার এক অচেনা জায়গায় যাওয়ার পথে তিনি এক দৈত্যকে দেখতে পেলেন। দৈত্যটি ছিল পাহাড়ের চেয়েও লম্বা, সে তার মাথায় করে আকাশ ধরে রেখেছিল। সে হারকিউলিসকে জিজ্ঞেস করল, তুমি কে? কী চাও?’ সেই বীর বলল, আমি হারকিউলিস। আমি সােনালি আপেলের বাগানে যেতে চাই।’

অনুবাদ : গ্রন্থের মাধ্যমেই আমরা সর্বোত্তম সমাজের পরিচয় পাই। গ্রন্থ আমাদের শ্রেষ্ঠ মননশীল ব্যক্তিদের অস্তিত্বের কাছে নিয়ে আসে। আমরা তাদের কথা ও কাজের সম্বন্ধে জ্ঞাত হই। আমরা দেখি, যেন তারা সত্যিই জীবিত। আমরা তাদের চিন্তাধারার অংশগ্রহণকারী হয়ে পড়ি। তাদের সঙ্গে আমরা সমব্যথী হয়ে যাই।

Patriotism is love for one’s country. It is powerful sentiment and wholly unselfish and noble. A patriot can sacrifice even his own life for the welfare of his country. It is idealism that gives courage and strength. But false patriotism makes a man narrow-minded and selfish.
অনুবাদ : নিজের দেশকে ভালােবাসাই স্বদেশপ্রেম। এটি এক প্রবল ভাবাবেগ, যা স্বার্থহীন ও মহৎ। স্বদেশের কল্যাণ কামনায় একজন দেশপ্রেমিক নিজের জীবন পর্যন্ত উৎসর্গ করতে পারেন। এটি একটি আদর্শ, যা দেয় সাহস ও শক্তি। কিন্তু মেকি স্বদেশপ্রেম মানুষকে সংকীর্ণমনা ও স্বার্থপর করে তােলে।

Honesty is a great Virtue. If you do not deceive others, if you do not tell a lie, if you are strictly just and fair in your dealing with others, you are an honest man. Honesty is the best policy. An honest man is respected by all. No one can prosper in life if he is not honest.
অনুবাদ : সততা মহৎ গুণ। যদি অপরকে প্রতারণা না কর, মিথ্যা না বল, অন্যের সঙ্গে যথার্থ ও ন্যায়সংগত আচরণ কর, তবে তুমি সৎ ব্যক্তি। সততাই শ্রেষ্ঠ পন্থা। সৎ ব্যক্তিকে সকলেই সম্মান করে। সততা ব্যতীত কেউ জীবনে উন্নতি করতে পারে না।

Wealth is no doubt necessary for happiness in life. But it has a tendency to be concentrated in the hands of few. The result is the rich becomes richer and the poor poorer. This is certainly a misuse of wealth. It should be fairly distributed among all so that it may bring happiness to the greatest number of people in the society.
অনুবাদ : জীবনে সুখের জন্য নিঃসন্দেহে ধনসম্পদ প্রয়ােজন। কিন্তু এই ধনসম্পদ মুষ্টিমেয় ব্যক্তির হাতে কেন্দ্রীভূত হওয়ার একটা প্রবণতা থাকে। এর ফলে ধনী হয়ে ওঠে আরও ধনী, আর দরিদ্র হয়ে ওঠে আরও দরিদ্র। এটা অবশ্যই ধনের অপব্যবহার। সমাজের বৃহত্তম অংশের সুখস্বাচ্ছন্দ্য বৃদ্ধির জন্য ধনসম্পদের ন্যায্য বণ্টন প্রয়ােজন।

We are living in an age of science. Science has discovered and invented many things. We use them in our daily life for our comfort and convenience. Electricity is one of the greatest and most important gift of science to man. Electricity has almost changed the mode of our life.
অনুবাদ : আমরা বিজ্ঞানের যুগে বাস করি। বিজ্ঞানের দ্বারা অনেক জিনিস আবিষ্কৃত ও উদ্ভাবিত হয়েছে। আমরা দৈনন্দিন জীবনে সেগুলি সুখ-সুবিধার জন্য ব্যবহার করছি। বিদ্যুৎ মানুষের কাছে বিজ্ঞানের অন্যতম শ্রেষ্ঠ ও গুরুত্বপূর্ণ উপহার। বিদ্যুৎ আমাদের জীবনধারাকে অনেকখানি বদলে দিয়েছে।

Student life is the stage of preparation for future. This is the most important period of life. A student is young today. But he will be a man tomorrow. He has different duties. He should perform them all. As a student, his first duty is to study and learn. He should be careful to his lessons.

Computer is the new miracle of science. It can make thousand of calculations in a moment. It can store in its memory millions of facts and figures. It can also recall them at ease. In our country the use of computer is growing rapidly. Now a day computers are used in banks, shops, airlines, offices, libraries, everywhere. It seems that computer is going to dominate the future civilization of man.

It is very easy to acquire bad habits, such as eating too many sweets or too much food or drinking too much liquid of any kind, or smoking. The more we do a thing, the more we tend to like doing it, and if we do not continue to do it, we feel unhappy. This is called the force of habit, and the force of habit should be fought against.

No man can not live alone. When we are children the family protects us. When we grow up, we need the help of all the people around us. If we try to live alone, our lives are no other than those of animals. Our father and mother, our teachers, our government, all these train us to do our duty.

The life of a student is a life of preparation, preparation for the struggle of life. To make him well fitted for the struggle, education is necessary. Students of today will lead the nation tomorrow. But if their education is not completed, would they be able to lead the country to peace and prosperity?

He who loves his country is a patriot. The patriots love their country more dearly than their lives. They are ready to lay down their lives for the welfare of their country. Everybody honours them. They live even after their death.

The newspaper is a very useful thing. At present we find many newspapers in Bangladesh. Newspaper helps the progress of a nation. People are eager to know what is going on in the world. They can know this and that by reading the newspaper. It gives us all sorts of news of our own land as well as foreign lands.

A boy may be very bad at subjects like history, geography and even English. But he may be very clever with his hands; he may be able to make excellent models of aeroplane or of trains. The necessity of learning English cannot be ever-stated. English is an international language. It is essential in our day-to-day activities. We must know English in order to go in for any job. There is hardly any situation where the employees can do without English.

We have duties to God, to state and to the society. God has created us and placed us on this beautiful earth. We are indebted to our society for the services it renders to us. In our country poverty is a great problem. But we do not understand that this plight is our own creation. Most people do not try to improve their condition with hard labour. They only express regret for their distress and blame their lot for it.

Bangladesh exports jute to foreign countries. It brings much money to the country. That is why jute is called the ‘golden fibre’ of Bangladesh. It is a very useful thing.

1. A garden is not a source (উৎস) of beauty only. It is also a source of income (আয়) to men. Men for their great love of flowers decorate their houses with them on occasion (অনুষ্ঠান). Men love flowers, for they are the symbols (প্রতিক) of beauty and purity. A village home without any garden looks bare and poor.

2. Self-reliance means depending on one’s own self. It is a great virtue. Self help is the best help. God helps those who help themselves. So, everybody must rely on his own abilities to be self reliant. A self reliant man has confidence in his own abilities. He takes heart in the face of difficults.

3. A man’s sight is the greatest treasure (সম্পদ). There is no greater misfortune (দূর্ভাগ্য) in life than blindness. A blind person cannot see the beauties of nature. He cannot discover the treasure of human thought lying in books. He cannot write to express his thought.

4. For your mental health you have to control your emotions. Without controlling your emotions you cannot enjoy good mental health. You have to have patience and respect for other people’s feeling. Without having patience you can not work properly.

5. We must make the best use of our animals. Bangladesh is an agricultural country. There is almost no mechanized cultivation. All the works of cultivation depend on animal power. That is why, working animals are badly needed.

6. A truly active man always finds time for everything. He is never in a hurry and never behind hand. Such a man never spends a single moment for nothing. He never leaves a letter unanswered. He does not set his hand to many things at a time but when he once undertake to do a thing he does not rest till it is well finished.

7. The great advantage (সুবিধা) of early rising is the good start it gives in our day’s work. The early riser has done huge quantity of hard work before other men have got out of bed. In early morning the mind is fresh (সতেজ) and there are fewer disturbances. So, the work done at that time is generally will be done. By begining so early, he knows that he has plenty of time to do all the work thoroughly. He is not, therefore, tempted (প্রবৃত্ত হওয়া) to hurry.

8. Kamal ordered that all superstitions (কুসংস্কার) about clothing and mode of life should be given up. He made the woman to give up their veils (ঘোমটা), walk about and breathe (শ্বাস-প্রশ্বাস নেওয়া) freely in the same way as men. He made education free and compulsory (বাধ্যতামূলক) for all children. He brought sweeping (ব্যাপক) improvement (উন্নতি) in the country. He worked with the energy of a giant and wisdom of a sage.

9. The wind and the sun had a quarrel as to who was the stronger. Just then a man came walking along the road. The sun said, “Do you see the man? Let us see which of us can make him take off his coat. He who succeed is the stronger.”

10. Home is the first school where the child learns his first lesson. He sees, hears and begins to learn at home. It is the home that builds his character. In a good home honest and healthy men are made. But indulgence at home spoils a child.

11. Education has no end. So you should keep up your reading. Many young men close their books when they have taken their degrees and learn no more. Therefore, they soon forget all they have ever learned. If you want to continue your education, you must find time for serious reading.

12. The English are noted for their love of games and sports. They are bred up to it from Childhood. Games, such as football, hockey, and cricket are played in all schools and the boys play them with great interest, the playing of such games has created in them the sporting spirit.

13. Good manners are also important when you are with your friends. When you speak to anyone, speak clearly and distinctly for person to hear. It is an insult to a person to ask his attention and then speak so that he does not understand you. And remember it is your responsibility to make yourself understood.

14. Suddenly the ship caught fire which spread over the deck. All others left the burning deck. ‘Father! Father!’ cried Casabianca, ‘Where are you? May I leave the place now?’ But there was no reply.

15. One cold day, a man was on his way home from his work. He found on the road a snake that was half-dead with cold. Out of pity he brought the snake home and nursed him back to life. But as soon as he was well, the snake tried to bite the man’s only child. At this, he took up a heavy axe and gave such a blow on the snake’s head that he died on the spot.

16. Honesty is the best policy. An honest man is respected (সম্মানিত) by all. Everybody trusts (বিশ্বাস) him. No one can prosper (উন্নতি করা) in life if he is not honest. An honest shopkeeper is liked very much by his customers (ক্রেতাগণ). All go to his shop and buy things from him. They begin to trust him. His credit (সুনাম) grows and his business flourishes (প্রসার লাভ).
